HISTORY OF GANGTOK

A Brief History

Gangtok is the largest city of Sikkim and its capital and is 5,400 feet above sea level and is the most visited place for foreign and domestic tourists. We will visiting the main market to see some the homegrown organic produce which is sight to behold. Sikkim is self sufficient in food and has one of the best records for biodiversity in the world. We will visit Shuffle Momos to sample the national dish in a beautiful restaurant overlooking Gangtok. 

MG MARG - DOWNTOWN GANGTOK

This the main street or high street of Gangtok where you can take a coffee, photocopy your visa, have some street food or watching the people on the benches. We will visit The Coffee Shop in the high street in MG Marg named after Mahatma Gandhi (MG) and Marg means Road

GANESK TOK 

Ganesh Tok is the oldest and best-known Hindu temples in the city. The Ganesh Tok and the Hanuman Tok, dedicated to the Hindu gods Ganpati and Hanuman sits around 6000 feet high overlooking the Gangtok. The view is amazing at sunset 

LUNCH AT SHUFFLE MOMOS

Shuffle Momos is the TripAdvisor number one restaurant in Gangtok and is a great introduction to the national dish. We will have the opportunity during the 14 day tour to try and make our own momos which is harder than you think.

SEEING THE REAL SIKKIM

Having a meal with Tashi's family is a great privilege because you see how the real Sikkimese live and experience some great hospitality. You can learn so much by casual conversation in this environment such a national dress, Buddhism in family life, family food recipes in Gangtok life, hobbies and interests and many more.
